My biggest challenge living in Austin is the weather. While others relish in our mild winters and our sunny days, I long for the change of seasons, the crispness of the first frost and the excitement of the first snow fall of the year. I love going outside on chilly days and if I lived in MI I'd have long hair, because I don't mind wearing it down.
I work daily....or at least I try, to bloom where I am planted. But I must say, I'd rather be stuck inside for 3 months due to the snow than 70+ days of 100 degree record breaking temperatures. And come to think of it, I wouldn't be stuck inside in the winter for months on end, I'd be sledding, skiing, walking and throwing snowballs. When it's 110 outside, all you can really do is swim in a pool so warm it feels like bath water.
What does this have to do with our trip to Portugal? WEATHER!! I am so excited! Check out this forecast for our first few days in Porto!

Why Portugal?
So our first over seas adventure as a family is to Portugal. We'll be flying in to Lisbon, spending some time in Porto to the north, Sintra (outside of Lisbon) and Nazare on the coast.
How did you choose Portugal? We've heard that question from just about anyone who has asked about our upcoming trip. We all threw out suggestions and it was one place that no one in our group had visited, and I've never heard of anyone going to Portugal that didn't love it. Off we go!
My just born blog
We are heading 'down the way' shortly and this is my official first blog, and my official first post. I don't know about the rest of you people, but I found it very difficult to come up with a blog name. "Down the Way".......I like it, even though Jordan thought it was too vague. And the title for my first blog post "just born" comes from Scout. When she sees a car with a paper license plate she says the car is "just born". So there ya have it, my Down the Way blog and my Just Born post. Oh......did I mention this blog is about our family travels? Hard to tell from the title and post, huh?
